Why believe in Magic and fortune telling?

Because of greed, fear and ignorance

As soon as people understand the Buddha’s teachings, they realize that a pure heart can protect them much better than bits of paper, bits of metal and a few chanted words and they no longer rely on such things. In the teachings of the Buddha, it is honesty, kindness, understanding, patience, forgiveness, generosity, loyalty and other good qualities that truly protect you and give you true prosperity.

I know a person who makes a living selling lucky charms. He claims that his charms can give good luck, prosperity and he guarantees that you will be able to pick three numbers. But if what he says is true then why isn’t he himself a multi-millionaire? If his lucky charms really work, then why doesn’t he win the lottery week after week? The only luck he has is that there are people silly enough to buy his magic charms. ~ by Venerable S. Dhammika

Sister +wipawon SIRI I was so worried about you, when I don't see you. I don't want to see you in hospital like before. I am doing good, accept one swollen eye, from working too much. I'm done moving my house to upstairs, but need to the computer desks to set up my computers. I will find the desks tomorrow then everything will be smooth, sister. Miss you and love you a lot!

Well said, true prosperity is being in the present moment, no past to loop around in your brain over and over again, no future to be anxious over… Only the present moment
without attachments. Its simple, but its one of the hardest things to do!

'lucky' is a matter of interpretation: as you noted, he already is lucky to have buyers. Moreover, maybe he also is lucky not to win the lottery (because maybe he would be attacked then! while now everyone just let him be)…

In India God is referred as "Bhagvan" or something similarly pronounced in most of the languages which have Sanskrit at its origin. But no one knows what actually that means. Actually there are 8 "Bhag" which means best qualities and anyone who have all of them at highest degree is considered as "Bhagvan". Those qualities can be improved with time with right conduct and moral values..

A pure heart rest in infinity but attracts every single substantiality in the materialistic world. +Jendhamuni Sos  to be pure in heart is so simply natural, yet the ultimate of challenge! Thank You and bless You!

That is why religions exist, follow us and you go to heaven follow somebody else and you go to hell. Just do your part when we ask for a collection. You can't ask for your money back either because you are dead by then. +Jendhamuni Sos Just me in a cynical mood. :-))

Live & Die for Buddhism

Me & Grandma

My Reflection

This site is a tribute to Buddhism. Buddhism has given me a tremendous inspiration to be who and where I am today. Although I came to America at a very young age, however, I never once forget who I am and where I came from. One thing I know for sure is I was born as a Buddhist, live as a Buddhist and will leave this earth as a Buddhist. I do not believe in superstition. I only believe in karma.

Tipitaka: The pali canon (Readings in Theravada Buddhism). A vast body of literature in English translation the texts add up to several thousand printed pages. Most -- but not all -- of the Canon has already been published in English over the years. Although only a small fraction of these texts are available here at Access to Insight, this collection can nonetheless be a very good place to start.
