There are women’s fashion magazines that tell us that in
order to succeed, you have to look a certain way, and use a certain
product. Many young people in our society want to have cosmetic
surgery in order to meet that standard of beauty. They suffer very
much, because they cannot accept their bodies. When you do not
accept your body as it is, you are not your true home. Every child
is born in the garden of humanity as a flower. Your body is a kind
of flower, and flowers differ from one another. Breathing in, I see
myself as a flower. Breathing out, I feel fresh. ~Thich Nhat Hanh

  4. Poor family

    11

A little girl on back seat begged me to buy her mangoes so her family would have some money to buy food. We gave her enough so her family could ride back home and rest. They were very happy, especially the little boy with no clothes…Her family reminds me so much of my family…

  5. Good qualities

    52

Your good qualities, if you don't know how to use them, can hurt you — like money, which is something good but, if you don't know how to spend it wisely, can lead to your ruin; or like a good sharp knife that, if you don't know how to use it properly, can do you harm. Say, for instance, that you use the knife to kill someone. When you're caught, you'll have to be thrown in jail or executed, which means that you used the knife to kill yourself.

  6. The mind has a chance to grow

    45

Beautiful things come from things that are dirty, and not at all from things that are pleasant and clean. Crops and trees, for instance, grow to be healthy and beautiful because of the rotten and smelly compost and nightsoil with which they're fertilized. In the same way, a beautiful mind comes from meeting with things that aren't pleasant. When we meet with bad things, the mind has a chance to grow.

  7. Please Do Not Celebrate January 7th

    51

Hope none of my Cambodian friends who loves our Mother Land as much as I do, will not celebrate this bitter day (January 7).

January 7th is a very sad day for the Khmer nation, our land was horribly invaded, many innocent Khmer were killed.

As a young child (six years old),  this day, was the very first day I witnessed many of my relatives, friends and neighbors killed — the day I will never forget. My father was shot, my beloved grandma was shot, most of my relatives were killed.  I was carrying my baby sister in one arm, the other around a tree, suddenly, the bomb exploded, — the bomb didn't take my life and baby sister's, but those around me. People were running like a zombie, covering with blood. My neighbors, got hit by a bomb right in front of my eyes. I was too young and too innocent to know what's going on, until my mother ran to me, crying, throwing her arms around me and baby sister. Thanks to the American Red Cross who came to rescue us, not the invaders…

Celebrating January 7th, is no difference from celebrating the loss of our Mother Land, the loss of the innocent lives, the loss of our brothers and sisters who fought courageously to protect us…

  9. Do not abuse or mistreat each other

    35

Human beings will continue to deceive and overpower one another.  Basically, everyone exists in the very nature of suffering, so to abuse or mistreat each other is futile. The foundation of all spiritual practice is love.  That you practice this well is my only request.  H.H. Dalai Lama

Shantidevas’ Bodhisattva vows

My reflection

Should anyone wish to ridicule me and make me an object of jest and scorn why should I possibly care if I have dedicated myself to others?

Let them do as they wish with me so long as it does not harm them. May no one who encounters me ever have an insignificant contact.

Regardless whether those whom I meet respond towards me with anger or faith, may the mere fact of our meeting contribute to the fulfilment of their wishes.

May the slander, harm and all forms of abuse that anyone should direct towards me act as a cause of their enlightenment.

As a solid rock is not shaken by the wind, so the wise are not shaken by blame and praise. As a deep lake is clear and calm, so the wise become tranquil after they listened to the truth…

Good people walk on regardless of what happens to them. Good people do not babble on about their desires. Whether touched by happiness or by sorrow, the wise never appear elated or depressed. ~The Dhammapada

Beauty in nature

A beautiful object has no intrinsic quality that is good for the mind, nor an ugly object any intrinsic power to harm it. Beautiful and ugly are just projections of the mind. The ability to cause happiness or suffering is not a property of the outer object itself. For example, the sight of a particular individual can cause happiness to one person and suffering to another. It is the mind that attributes such qualities to the perceived object. — Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche

Nature is loved by what is best in us. The sky, the mountain, the tree, the animal, give us a delight in and for themselves. — Ralph Waldo Emerson

Our journey for peace
begins today and every day.
Each step is a prayer,
Each step is a meditation,
Each step will build a bridge.

— Maha Ghosananda
