Losing control

Swearing doesn’t make your argument
valid; it just tells the other person
you have lost your class and control.

+Charles van Dijk Many beautiful people over there. I'm so glad you had a chance to meet them. That's my favorite part of the country.

+Jendhamuni Sos My friend was the 'Tuk Tuk' driver elderly man (my age) who knew all of the history. If he couldn't make it he organised a substitute driver.

I'm a little ashamed to admit it, but I swear sometimes in arguments. It's not because I lose control but a conscious decision to startle the other person. Sometimes people can be so attached to their views that they don't even listen to opposing ideas. In those cases I'll swear to try to dislodge their mind from complacent rejection and start listening to what is being said. A swear can be used as a threat so even when used noon-threateningly I find it snaps focus and attention to what's being spoken, not unlike the immediate focus that the hiss or tail rattle of a snake causes.

The use of this kind of language can only be a very last resort to try and get your point of view across to a belligerently minded individual, but then…. Like going to the Doctor's…. You can always pick-up your dignity on the way out 😉

Live & Die for Buddhism

Me & Grandma

My Reflection

This site is a tribute to Buddhism. Buddhism has given me a tremendous inspiration to be who and where I am today. Although I came to America at a very young age, however, I never once forget who I am and where I came from. One thing I know for sure is I was born as a Buddhist, live as a Buddhist and will leave this earth as a Buddhist. I do not believe in superstition. I only believe in karma.

Tipitaka: The pali canon (Readings in Theravada Buddhism). A vast body of literature in English translation the texts add up to several thousand printed pages. Most -- but not all -- of the Canon has already been published in English over the years. Although only a small fraction of these texts are available here at Access to Insight, this collection can nonetheless be a very good place to start.
