This year, Khmer New Year (Year of the Snake) falls on Sunday April 14. However, the new Buddhist Era (B.E. 2557) does not fall on the same day as Khmer New Year. I see many Khmer Buddhists around the globe, got this mixed up. New Buddhist Era always enter one day after the Buddha's Day or Vesakha Puja, the day Buddha was born, the day he attained enlightenment, and the day he passed away. So this year, Vesakha Puja will occur on May 24th, 2013. Therefore Buddhist Era 2557 will fall on May 25, 2013, not on April 14, like Khmer New Year. I hope you are willing to correct this important mistake in the future. ~Jendhamuni

+Jendhamuni Sos New Year starts in Hindu Month of Chaitra where as Lord Budhdha was born in Baisakhi Poonam (full moon day of Baisakh / Vaishakh). V & B as well as K and Kh are interchanged as per the language and region. Chaitra id followed by Baisakh. So altogether a different month.

Buddha Poornima, the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha falls on Vaisakha Poornima i.e. 25th may 2013. In India Bodhgaya (Bihar) and Sarnath (Uttar Pradesh) are, in particular, known for the Buddha Purnima celebrations which are held in these two cities.

The Thai, Laotian, Burmese, and Khmer new year all fall in mid April. In Albuquerque (ABQ), I visited the Lao Buddhist Temple (308 Wisconsin Street NE ~ Wat Lao Phoxaiyaram) on the afternoon of Sunday 14 April 2013, did devotional service for 90 minutes (e.g. folding up and moving chairs, consolidating the rubbish, and using a "leaf blower" outdoors).
During the break, I visited the abbot named Pra-Arjan-Somphone Phetdavone and he recited a blessing (in the Laotian language) whilst brading and tying a reddish-brown cord around my right wrist. I can still feel the auspiciousness. There are also two Thai temples in my city (Albuquerque). However, there are no Burmese or Cambodian shrines or temples in ABQ. Alas, this is a mid-size city and not a major metropolis.
