Always Speak Kind Words

Do not speak anything harsh.
Those who are spoken to will answer you.
Angry talk is painful, and retaliation will touch you.
If you make yourself as still as a broken gong,
you have attained nirvana, for anger is not known to you.

+Jendhamuni Sos Although Buddha may have said to speak kind words, I don't think he meant kind words are to be spoken to unkind people. When people generate expressions from a pathological source and intent, you cannot expect Buddha to respond to unjustified hatred with kindness. There are ways to use nonviolent protests, but it does not mean you must say thank you after being beaten or tortured without mercy.
The USA has a long and shameful history of slavery which never would have ended without the civil rights movement. Even today, over 45 years after Martin Luther King was assassinated, hate and malice continues in this country.
I would not expect kind words from the unfortunate victims of these crimes.
    Would you?

+Jendhamuni Sos, wise words of wisdom that one should live by; to do less will only harm you, and not your target of anger.  Thanks for sharing.  Have a blessed day.  Godspeed

+Jendhamuni Sos I'm sorry but I have to disagree on this one.

If not for anger good wouldn't have ever existed because evil takes advantage and advances because of one's good nature.

But I also see that you're(and Buddha) saying evil takes advantage and advances off of evil, therefore one should exercise mental discipline(balance) for humanity to progress.

    Right?

Perhaps 'sense of justice' rather than anger – is quieter yet more powerful?

+Jendhamuni Sos The times and people have changed drastically since the time of Buddha and even when I was young, therefore we should acknowledge that fighting fire with fire isn't always a bad thing to do.

    Great message anyway +Jendhamuni Sos

Thanks for sharing; words that are spoken with harshness will only bring the same back to you. When people speak words of anger toward you I find it best to respond with a positive remark; usually this will this brings for a happy resolution. If not I simply don't respond. Don't let negative emotions affect you!

Life is painful, happiness is painful, Angry is painful, Love is painful, Sad is painful. everything is painful if you have attachment to defilements, greed, desire and let your sensation, emotion, affection, distract your mind, heart and soul. You will never be happy and attain enlightenment and Nirvana.

My Reflection

This site is a tribute to Buddhism. Buddhism has given me a tremendous inspiration to be who and where I am today. Although I came to America at a very young age, however, I never once forget who I am and where I came from. One thing I know for sure is I was born as a Buddhist, live as a Buddhist and will leave this earth as a Buddhist. I do not believe in superstition. I only believe in karma.

Tipitaka: The pali canon (Readings in Theravada Buddhism). A vast body of literature in English translation the texts add up to several thousand printed pages. Most -- but not all -- of the Canon has already been published in English over the years. Although only a small fraction of these texts are available here at Access to Insight, this collection can nonetheless be a very good place to start.
